Exploring New Foods

One of the ways we explore new things is by trying new foods. When we travel, we try foods particular to the area. When in Louisville, Kentucky we had a delicious Hot Brown open-faced sandwich where it was created in the 1920's at the The Brown Hotel. In Texas, we got a whole pecan pie from a vending machine. We've enjoyed various types of barbecue throughout the country: from tangy to sweet to spicy to dry. Maine is known for melt-in-your-mouth, fresh lobsters. In Alaska, we had the best salmon and halibut. In San Diego, a memorable crusty calamari steak. In North Bend, Oregon at Twede's Cafe a delicious breakfast followed by homemade cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee. In Winslow, Arizona someone told us about Polly's Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. We've been there several times now!

I'm not sure where I'm going with this topic but when thinking about exploring, food is a primary focus so I've included it in this blog too! If we travel, you'll hear about what we ate. When I go through pictures, I'll add here the fun foods we found along the way. Even when we hike we bring along pretty wonderful homemade scones and other delicacies. A fellow firefighter recently told us that 'good things come out of your kitchen'. I may share a recipe or two here too.
